Alexandria Va. – United States Park Police are investigating a fatal 2 vehicle crash involving a passenger car and mid-sized shuttle bus, on the George Washington Memorial Parkway near Stratford Lane. One passenger from the bus died on the scene.
The bus, carrying foreign visitors from China, had 18 passengers plus the driver. The passenger car had two occupants. Two passengers from the bus remain in critical condition.
The decedent was identified as Youfen Zhou, 62, of China, a female passenger on the bus.
The bus was travelling northbound and the passenger car was travelling southbound south of the intersection with Stratford Lane. A head-on collision resulted in the bus being tipped onto its left side and sliding off of the east side of the roadway. The passenger car also left the roadway and came to rest in a wooded area on the west side of the lanes.
Several witnesses and passersby helped to upright the bus and rendered aid to the wounded.
