Richmond, Virginia was key to the American Civil War. Serving as both a manufacturing, medical, and political hub for the Confederacy, Richmond was the prize for which both the Union and Confederate armies fought from 1861 to 1865. Located on 3,629 acres of historic ground in the coastal plain of Virginia, today Richmond National Battlefield Park looks much as it would have during the civil war.
