The Natural Resource Condition Assessment (NRCA) Program provides framework, funding, and publishing support to parks to aid in the synthesis and documentation of natural resource conditions. Condition assessment reports are a tool to describe selected park resources, record a snapshot of their current condition, identify trends in condition, and determine potential or current threats and stressors. Understanding the condition and trend of natural resources is key for parks and NPS planners to appropriately prioritize and allocate stewardship resources.

Located on 842 acres of historic ground in South Carolina, near the state line with North Carolina, Cowpens National Battlefield preserves a major battlefield of the American Revolutionary War. The Battle of Cowpens was a turning point in the war. Using a tactic known as the double envelopment, American Patriot forces attacked both sides of the British army, securing a surprising victory for the Patriots. Visitors to the park learn how the Cowpens victory was part of a chain of events that turned the tide of war, and ultimately lead to the Patriot victory over Britain just nine months later.
