Flowing across 153 miles of northern Arkansas, the Buffalo River is one of the few remaining undammed rivers in the lower 48 states. The lower 135 miles of the river is designated as the Buffalo National River and is administered by the National Park Service. The National River designation protects the river’s free-flowing state and habitat for the flora and fauna that live in or near the river. Most visitors come to paddle the river by canoe, tube, or kayak, while others hike, camp, or fish along its banks.
