About


The National Historic Landmarks Program of the NPS Midwest Region assists Landmarks in the states of Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. These thirteen states are home to approximately 450 Landmarks that represent the diverse history of the Midwest. Among them are Little Rock Central High School, Cahokia Mounds, Farnsworth House, Akima Pinšiwa Awiiki (Chief Jean-Baptiste de Richardville House), Amana Colonies, Nicodemus Historic District, Charles A. Lindbergh Sr. House, Gateway Arch, Mackinac Island, Huff Archeological Site, Thomas A. Edison Birthplace, Bear Butte, and the Willa Cather House.

The Midwest Region National Historic Landmarks Program provides guidance and technical assistance in partnership with stewards, agencies, organizations, and communities to identify, document, protect, and preserve National Historic Landmarks within the region. This includes assistance in the preparation of Landmark nominations, historical documentation, archeological surveys, treatment plans for stabilization and repair, planning, and education.
