Did You Know?
Island peoples used surf grass for many purposes. It served as a substitute for mainland species, like tule, that could not be found on the Channel Islands. Roofs, mats, skirts, baskets, water bottles, nets, fishing lines, knee pads, and more were all made from surf grass.
