On or about May 23d [1806] with a hundred Aleut hunters, four Russians, twelve women, and fifty bidarkas, the O’Cain set sail for the south, and on June 10th anchored just north of Trinidad Bay [northern California], where Washington Sound, now Big Lagoon, was discovered, named, and partially explored.
