Appomattox Court House National Historic Park, the site of the April 9, 1865 surrender that led to the end of the Civil War, became a unit of the National Park Service in 1933. Since that time, development and preservation of the cultural landscape has been guided by planning documents, including a 2009 Cultural Landscape Report. This documents the landscape history, conditions, and recommended preservation treatment for the historically significant features of the site to guide its current and and future management.

Preserving the Historic Orchards at Manzanar National Historic Site
The Wilder Orchard helps us better understand what life was like during the period of incarceration at Manzanar National Historic Site. The Japanese Americans that were confined here, most of whom were American citizens, grew some of their own food, including fruit from orchard trees that were already growing on the land. Today, the National Park Service maintains the remaining fruit trees and replaces those that have been lost or damaged.

César E. Chávez National Monument
César E. Chávez National Monument [also known as known as Nuestra Señora Reina de la Paz (La Paz)] was established through Presidential Proclamation under the 1906 Antiquities Act and was designated a National Historic Landmark by the Secretary of the Interior on October 8, 2012. Located in Keene, California, the property is recognized for its historic significance to César Estrada Chávez and the farm worker movement.
