Education Program in Development

The staff at Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park is currently working to create curriculum-based education programming for students and teachers. As we work to create those offerings, we are currently offering non-curriculum-based programs. Please select from the available program offerings below.

Planning Your Field Trip

When planning your field trip, there are a few things that you should know:

• Cost: Education programs are FREE

• Group Size: 15-60 people
  • Visitors must be on a guided program to see the interior of the historic homes. Reservations are required for groups of 15 or more people to ensure you get the best visit possible.
  • Groups of over 60 people will need to request multiple time slots.
  • We do not currently offer reservations for groups with fewer than 15 people. If you have fewer than 15 people, consider checking our public program offerings on our event calendar.

• Chaperones: All groups require 1 chaperone per 10 students

• Accessibility: Education programs currently require climbing stairs and walking approximately 0.5 miles total between historic houses. Accommodations may be made for individuals with accessibility needs. Learn more about accessibility at Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park.

Scheduling Information

• Field trips are only available Thursday-Sunday, at 9:30 am and 1:00 pm.

• Each time slot can accommodate a maximum of 60 people, including chaperones.

• Groups with over 60 people will need to be divided into multiple time slots. Please note on your request form if you need to request multiple time slots.

• Spring visits are available from March 1st – June 21st

• Fall visits are available from August 1st – November 15th

To schedule your visit, please fill out the Education Reservation Request Form and submit it for processing by park staff. Choose your program from the offerings listed below, and use the calendar below to select the date and time of your visit. Reservations are made on a first come, first serve basis. As dates are reserved, they will be removed from the calendar. Note: the calendar will only show available dates/times.

Reservation Cancellation Policy

To cancel your reservation, call 573-880-7189 as soon as possible. Programs may be canceled by the park due to inclement weather. In the case of a weather cancellation, we will contact you to discuss rescheduling options. If you are concerned about the weather conditions, please call us. Programs may be rescheduled to a later date; however, we cannot guarantee a reschedule date. Reservations will be canceled for groups that are more than 30 minutes late without prior contact with us

 

Available Program Offerings

Kindergarten - 6th Grade

Discover Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park through an open house exploration of two historic houses.  

Park rangers will guide students to our historical properties, provide a brief introduction, and allow them to explore the homes at their own pace. After students investigate the homes, park rangers will spend time answering questions about the houses and people of Ste. Genevieve. 

Rotations: Three 20-minute rotations including: 

• Jean Baptiste Vallé House
• Green Tree Tavern  
• The Ste. Genevieve Welcome Center where students can watch the park film 

Total Visit Time: 2 hours 15 minutes (time for rotations and transitions)

7th - 12th Grade

Learn more about Colonial Ste. Genevieve and the people who lived here through our ranger-guided tours.  

Park rangers will lead students to two historic houses and give them guided tours of each. Topics featured on our guided tours include colonialism, slavery, architecture, government, and culture. Following each tour, students will be able to ask questions regarding the house and its residents.

Authority: Public Law 114-289 National Park Service Centennial Act and 54 U.S.C. 100701 Protection, interpretation, and research in System.
