SPRINGFIELD, MA. Springfield Armory National Historic Site is pleased to welcome the 215thUnited States Army Band to perform with its full complement of 42 musicians. Join us on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Admission is free. Inclement weather moves the concert indoors.
The 215thArmy Band of Massachusetts Army National Guard remains one of the nation’s finest military bands. For more than 60 years, the band has performed throughout New England and the world, bringing the Army’s finest musical traditions and goodwill to thousands of listeners.
Chief of Interpretation, Joanne M. Gangi-Wellman commented that “Springfield Armory is the perfect place for this Army band concert. The Armory’s role for 174 years was to manufacture firearms for the Army specifically. As the 215thplays an array of wonderfully diverse music; from fife and drums to rock and roll, it also stands for the diverse kinds of people in our Armed Forces from all across the nation.”
Audience members will delight in watching the night’s music experience unfold. SFC James H. LaFlame explained the plan for the evening. “The performance opens up with small groups of performers playing fife and drum, and then more musicians gather to play in the Brass Band and finally a Rock/Pop concert leads to a finale of the full band performing rousing patriotic music.Bring a chair or blanket, enjoy picnic suppers, or purchase items from food vendors on site.
Parking is free and shuttles are located at convenient locations. This concert is co-sponsored by Springfield Technical Community College.
Springfield Armory National Historic Site commemorates and preserves the site of our Nation’s first armory, established in 1794. Managed with the Commonwealth of MA, Springfield Technical Community College and the National Park Service, it is the home of the world’s largest historic American military firearms collection. The site is open daily,9 AM- 5 PM.
