This corps left Corinth April 3d, by the Ridge and Bark
roads and deployed in line of battle on this ground about noon
Saturday, April 5, 1862; the 1st Brigade on the right of the
Pittsburg Road; the 2d and 3d Brigades to the left of said
road.
The picket in front of this Corps was attacked at
4.55 a.m. April 6, 1862 and at 6.30 the Corps advanced to
the attack of the Union camps.
In the first attack the Brigades of this Corps commingled
with the troops of General Bragg and the corps organization
was lost. No attempt was made to reunite the brigades under
the corps commander.
Gen. Hardee assumed command of the Confederate left on
Sunday and of the right on Monday.
This Corps had present for duty, effective men, 6,758.
Its loss was 404 killed; 1936 wounded; 141 missing;
Total, 2,481.
