Traveling Trunks

Bring Shiloh National Military Park to your classroom with a traveling trunk!

Shiloh National Military Park proudly offers traveling trunks with a curriculum to fit your student's needs. Enhance your students learning with these hands-on activities. Our traveling trunks are designed so that teachers and students anywhere can receive hands-on educational materials relating to the American Civil War and Shiloh National Military Park. The trunks are easily shipped in a large flat-rate box from the United States Postal Service. The return postage is the only cost associated with "borrowing" a trunk.

Additionally, each traveling trunk is accompanied by a Shiloh Ranger Buddy. The Ranger Buddy travels with each trunk to collect the stories of the classrooms they visit. Snap a picture of your guest Ranger Buddy with your class and send it back with the trunk. You can email the photo to our education coordinator.

Narrated by Peter Coyote, this riveting Civil War documentary brings to life the boys of 1862 as they suffer through the bloody Battle of Shiloh. Shiloh: Fiery Trial is noted for winning a REMI at the Worldfest-Houston International Film Festival in 2013 and for being the only National Park Service film to be shown in its entirety nationally on PBS.

Corinth Crossroads: A Town Amidst War (DVD only)
The film, “Corinth Crossroads: A Town Amidst War,” is a 20-minute film that highlights the history surrounding the human drama experienced by the citizens and soldiers in Corinth, MS, during the Civil War. The film opens amid the bloody aftermath of the Confederate defeat at the Battle of Shiloh and weaves its historical narrative by highlighting the wartime drama encountered by participants, both civilians and soldiers, who witnessed firsthand the continuing prosecution of the war during the subsequent siege and later battle of Corinth. As a town strategically located directly in the path of the war that transformed American society, the film further highlights the role Corinth played, while occupied by Union forces, in the lives of thousands of African-Americans who fled slavery and found a safe haven at the Corinth Contraband Camp, which the freedmen and women inhabited until Union forces abandoned the town in early 1864.

Decision at the Crossroads (DVD only)
The film “Decision at the Crossroads” is a 14-minute film that features a historical analysis of the military strategies and events that took place in and around Corinth, MS, during the Battle of Corinth in October of 1862.
