You might think that the Manzano Church is a remnant of a 17th-century building, but it was actually constructed in late 1829 by the people living in the nearby town of Manzano. The plan was to build it near the Quarai Mission, but due to public protests, the construction was halted. Additionally, Apache raids in 1830 likely played a role in the decision to relocate the church. Eventually, a new site was chosen closer to Manzano, and that’s where the church still stands today. As a result, the original construction near the Quarai Mission was never finished.
