Calling all homeschoolers and their families on Monday, October 6! Visit the park for special programming including ranger-guided programs, drop-in activities, and educational workshops.

 

Drop-In Activities (9:30am - 12:30pm)

The following activities will be available between 9:30am and 12:30pm in addition to watching the park orientation film, visiting galleries and historic buildings, and hiking on the trail system. Reservations not required.

Write-Out

Description: This immersive writing experience allows students to experiment with writing in a new and unique environment. Inspired by the National Writing Project’s “Write-Out” initiative, this writing program will engage students with the environment and sculpture to find new sources of creativity and inspiration.
Target Age: 12+

Family Art Activities

Description: Continue the tradition of creativity and make art together. A variety of art supplies will be provided in the Caretaker's Garage (next to the visitor center) for families to experiment and have fun together.

Meet the Sculptor-in-Residence

Description: Visit the working studio of the park's sculptor-in-residence to learn more about the process of creating sculpture. Make sure to bring all your questions!

Ranger-Guided Educational Experiences (reservations required)

1. Birding Walk

Time: 9:30am - 10:15am
Description: Guided hike through the Ravine Trail and field exploring the birds and other wildlife that inhabit the park. All participants must wear closed-toed shoes. Activity involves walking approximately 1 mile including sections with slope.

2. A Home in Cornish

Time: 9:30am - 10:15am
Description: Explore the Saint-Gaudens family residence with a ranger and learn how artists made the place home. All partipiants must follow museum guidelines while inside the historic space including remaining on the carpeted floors and not touching museum objects.

3. Sculpture Tour

Time: 10:30am - 11:15am
Description: Outdoor ranger-guided tour visiting recastings of large sculptures created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens and exploring their significance today.

4a. Salamander Monitor

Time: 10:30am - 11:15am
Description: Ranger-guided program through the park forest to collect data on salamanders at the park and add to a nationwide community science database.
Target Age: 4-12 and families

Time: 11:30am - 12:45pm
Description: Ranger-guided program through the park forest to collect data on salamanders at the park and add to a nationwide community science database.

5. The People and the Process

Time: 11:30am - 12:30pm
Description: STEAM-based hands-on experience exploring the teamwork behind creating Augustus Saint-Gaudens' scultures.

Reservations and Fees

Park entry is always free for kids age 15 and under. There is a $10 entry fee for individuals over age 15. Homeschool groups may qualify for an Academic Fee Waiver, but must complete an application before arriving to the park. Reach out to saga_info@nps.gov to learn more an Academic Fee Waiver and begin the application process.

There are no additional fees for individual education programs.

To register for one or more Ranger Guided Experiences, email saga_info@nps.gov with the number of participants and their ages. Space is limited. Parents or educators must accompany children.
