You're invited to Namekagon Memory Day, Friday, July 19th, 2:00-5:00 p.m.
Please come and share your stories of the Namekagon River. We are always looking for historic photos, etc. of the river. Park historian Jean Schaeppi will be on hand to record stories and scan photographs.
This year's speaker is environmentalist and river steward, Bob Olson. He will be speaking at 2:00 p.m. about his family and Urenholdt forest in Seeley and reading Namekagon excerpts from his father, Sigurd Olson's works.
Author, Jim Schirott (The history of Wisconsin's Northwoods: 350 years in the Seeley hills) will not be able to make it, but signed copies of his book will be available for purchase.
Sandy Lyon, founder of Protect the Earth, is bringing a photo display commemorating Gaylord Nelson's protection of the Namekagon River. Gaylord Nelson founded Earth Day and co-authored the Wild and Scenic River Act, which created the Saint Croix national Scenic Riverway in 1968.
Please join us for a fun afternoon of memories and light refreshments.
