Berry brings a rich background in community and environmental planning, cultural resource management, and public involvement processes. She joined the National Park Service (NPS) in 2010 and has since held several key positions, including national heritage area program manager and centennial coordinator for the South Atlantic Gulf Region, acting superintendent of DeSoto National Memorial, regional chief of community assistance and partnerships for the National Capital Area, and acting superintendent of Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve. Before her NPS career, Berry worked in both federal and state government as well as private consulting. She holds a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in cultural anthropology, as well as an additional master’s degree in city and regional planning. Her educational background has equipped her with a unique perspective on cultural and community engagement, which she has effectively applied throughout her career. During her time at Congaree National Park, Berry was instrumental in building strong alliances with non-profit partners and other agencies. These collaborations extended the park’s capacity and achieved mutually beneficial goals. Berry also developed high-profile partnerships with tourism organizations and educational institutions, significantly expanding the park’s public reach. Berry is not only dedicated to her professional responsibilities but also enjoys a variety of personal interests. Along with her partner, Lynn-Margaret, she has lived, worked, and traveled extensively across the country and the world. Berry enjoys outdoor activities such as paddling, biking, and hiking.
