Looking for Rocky in-depth?

The park’s research group creates one-page summaries of recent research projects. The most recent include:

  1. Dr. Willard’s Alpine Tundra Research Plots - A review of the successful listing of Dr. Willard’s alpine tundra research plots to the National Register of Historic Places, the first ecological research plots in the country to be so recognized.
  2. Bighorn Genetics - Preliminary results of recent non-invasive genetic work on bighorn sheep show the population is not "bottlenecked," but there are not any new immigrants into the park population.
  3. Cutthroat Trout - A study revealed that colder streams may be necessary for translocation success.
  4. Rock glaciers - A model examines the existing permafrost locations and how climate change might effect park permafrost.
  5. Temperature trends - A long-term study of temperatures at nearby Niwot Ridge is likely comparable to temperatures in our park.
