Seeing the Race at the Park
The races on Sept. 19-20 will pass through the Fort Harrison area of the park, on Battlefield Park Road between New Market Road and Route 5. The park will remain open, with the opportunity for visitors to watch the race from the park on both days. On Saturday, the races start at 9:00AM. On Sunday, they start at 10:30AM. The races may pass through the park 30-60 minutes later.
Visitors can park south of the Mill Road and Battlefield Park Road intersection and watch the Team Time Trial races from Fort Gilmer. Please note that Battlefield Park Road will be closed from Mill Road north to New Market Road (Route 5) during the actual race periods. Park rangers will have tents set up to offer visitors information about the park and its resources, including the Centennial celebration of the National Park Service. To access Fort Harrison on this weekend, the park suggests double-checking the road closures and recommends taking Interstate 295, Exit 22, New Market Road, north to the park.
