Celebrate National Park Week at the Wetlands Acadian Cultural Center (314 St. Mary Street in Thibodaux; 985-448-1375)!- Monday-Friday, April 17-21: hunt for "alligator" eggs; bonus ranger talk about the ecology and natural history of the American alligator, Louisiana's state reptile, at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The center is open 9:00 a.m.-7:00 p.m. Monday-Tuesday and 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Wednesday-Friday.
- Saturday, April 22 9:00 a.m.-noon: discover what's happening on the wing with a special morning of bird science and hands-on fun. The first 20 families at the day's event can build a bluebird nest box to take home. All programs and activities free.Activities will include demonstrations highlighting bird ecology and adaptations and information about habitat and nesting needs for species whose populations are declining. Learn how to participate in NestWatch http://nestwatch.org/, a nationwide monitoring program from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology that tracks status and trends like when nesting occurs, how many eggs are laid, how many eggs hatch, and how many hatchlings survive. The first 20 families at the day’s event can build a bluebird nest box to take home.
