To celebrate and share the beauty of our dark night skies, and celebrate Cedar Breaks National Monument's new library telescope lending program rangers are hosting a series of star parties at Iron and Washington county libraries throughout the winter season.

This star party is conducted by park staff and astronomy volunteers in the town of Parown on:
    Friday, March 16th, 7:30-9:30 pm
Parowan Public Library, 16 S Main St, Parowan, UT 84761

Once the light fades, the party kicks off with a laser light tour of the constellations, followed by star viewing through several telescopes. Observe swirling nebulae, twinkling star clusters, neighborly planets, and distant galaxies. Learn about everything from constellation mythology to the structure of the universe, all in one night!
No need to make reservations, just show up! Please dress extremely warmly for the cold winter night air! Astronomy is a sedentary activity;as a rule of thumb, you should dress for at least 20 degrees colder than the outside air temperature

For residents who cannot attend a star party, consider checking out a take-home-telescope! Through the Cedar Breaks National Monument's new library telescope lending program residents of Iron and Washington counties can check out a high-quality telescope from their local library, just like a book, and use it to enjoy the amazing dark skies of Southern Utah.
