During the Revolutionary War, Spain was an ally of the young United States. Bernardo de Galvez, governor of Spanish Louisiana, raised an army which included Spanish regular troops (mostly from Latin America) and local militias (mostly Acadians, recent immigrants to the area and ancestors of today's Cajuns). Together they waged a successful military campaign against the British along the Gulf Coast.

This special exhibit commemorates the Spanish role in Louisiana and Hispanic Heritage Month. Follow the link for more information about the Acadian Cultural Center in Lafayette. The center is open Tuesday-Friday 9:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Saturday 8:30 a.m.-noon. The center is closed on federal holidays, including Monday, October 8, for Columbus Day.
