BEAUFORT, SC- Reconstruction Era National Historical Park invites the public to attend a free special event celebrating Women’s History Month on Saturday March 23, 2024. The event will take place from 10 am to 4 pm at Darrah Hall at the Penn Center National Historic Landmark District on St. Helena Island.
Women’s History Month began in 1981 as Women’s History Week and was expanded to a full month in 1987. Every March during Women's History Month and throughout the year, the National Park Service and our partners commemorate the role of women in American history, and Reconstruction Era National Historical Park is excited to participate in 2024. On Saturday March 23, the park will host a full day of special programs and hands on activities for kids that provide opportunities for the public the learn about the contributions and experiences of women during the Reconstruction era in the Lowcountry and beyond.
Throughout the day, historians, community partners, and park rangers, will be giving lectures and presentations inside Darrah Hall. While outside, park staff, volunteers, and community groups will host a variety of hands-on activities for kids.
