GAP Confluence to Ohiopyle

North of Confluence the Great Allegheny Passage segment of the PHT returns to a primitive time of quietly flowing water and dark hemlocks. Here we're headed to Ohiopyle State Park. Except for the railbed, the scene is virtually unchanged from when the area was first settled.

Confluence
This town was originally called Turkeyfoot because the three waters which joined here formed that shape. The name was changed to Confluence in the 1870s with the coming of the railroad. Today it is a pleasant place to explore, featuring lodging and restaurants, an outfitter, a paddling school and many interesting structures including two trestles.
