Description
River Raisin National Battlefield Park will host two Junior Ranger Angler Programs on Saturday Sept. 7th at Eliza Howell Park and Saturday Sept. 21 at North Hydro Park, both in Ypsilanti.
Programs will be held from 10:30am – 12:30pm and 1:00pm – 3:00pm on the days listed above. Fishing rods, tackle, life vests, and an experienced angler will be present on site free of charge. Target age range is 7 – 17 years old, though exceptions for participation in the program can be made. Anyone older than 17 will need a valid Michigan fishing license. Participants should dress in layers, bring a water bottle, sunglasses, sunscreen, and other sun protection. All participants under 17 years old will need an adult chaperone. Severe weather will cause us to seek shelter and perhaps cancel.
Participants will learn basic knot tying and casting techniques, how to catch and release properly, common fish identification, the history of fishing in the region, and about stewardship of the environmental resources that preserve the fish population in the area.
