In the fall of 2024, Point Reyes National Seashore will be recruiting and accepting applications for Winter Wildlife Docent Volunteers for the winter of 2024–2025. Winter Wildlife Docents help strengthen the connection with and foster stewardship of Point Reyes National Seashore among park visitors by helping visitors view, understand, and appreciate elephant seals and gray whales during their respective mating and migration seasons. Docents help visitors understand the ongoing management and research issues relating to northern elephant seals in Point Reyes National Seashore and provide general park information and assistance to visitors. New docents must attend three days of Winter Wildlife Docent training on November 16 & 17, 2024, and December 7, 2024.
