The Silver Swan Ragtime Interpreters present "1812—A March Through Musical History." This program will highlight the musical form of the military march, its relevance to the War of 1812, and its roots in earlier 18th-century French and Spanish marches and their later development in Latin America and the United States. It will also explore how the march became part of ballroom and social dance culture up to the turn of the 20th century, blending new ideas from African American music and culminating in a traditional jazz classic from New Orleans.
The Silver Swan Ragtime Interpreters are Jack Craft, Darryl Durham, Steven Glenn, Rebeckah Gordon-Kirk, Patrick Mackey and Anuraag Pendyal.
This program is free and open to the public.
