Demonstration locations can vary, so when you arrive, ask at Desert View's outdoor visitor center, under the large shade structure, just beyond the north end of the main parking lot. Park rangers are staffing an information desk there, from 9 am to 4 pm (as staffing allows).

In the event of bad weather, the demonstrations may be held in the Watchtower building.

• In addition to being a silversmith, Jonah Hill has been a river guide, and is an environmental educator. Jonah has worked with various types of media and has exhibited his work in numerous shows and galleries. This week, Jonah will be demonstrating how he creates jewelry out of sterling silver, copper, brass and tufa stone (a volcanic rock).

Jerry Whagado is from the Western Apache culture and grew up on the Hopi Mesas. Jerry learned his silversmith skills years ago (in the late 1960's early 1970's) at the Hopi Silvercraft Guild, under the tutelage of the legendary Fred Kabotie. His unique silver overlay jewelry brings Apache symbolism to the artform he learned from Hopi silversmiths.

Lionel Honwytewa makes both contemporary style Hopi Katsina dolls, as well as the traditional one-piece carvings from a single piece of cottonwood root. He also creates mixed media drawings of the Katsina.
