HIKE: STALEY COULEE HIKE

Ice Age Floods National Geologic Trail

  • Apr 8, 2023 at 1:00 PM
  • Free

Join us for a leisurely free 2-1/2 mile hike up Staley Coulee. We will meet in Washtucna at Java Bloom on the north end of town to begin our hike at 1:00.

Chapter president Lloyd Stoess and EWU professor Dr. Chad Pritchard will lead us up the Staley Coulee drainage looking at big and small erratics, foreset bedding in the Staircase Rapids bar, alluvial fans made of cobbles, paleosols and more. This lower end of the Staircase Rapids is a complex area with flood waters coming from 3 directions and then ending with slack water from Lake Lewis.
