In 2022, Yellowstone is commemorating 150 years as the world’s first national park. Yellowstone Forever and the National Park Service recognize that prior to being established as a national park, Yellowstone was the home of—and is still culturally significant to—many Tribal Nations. Currently, 27 Tribes are recognized as having cultural association with the park.

This summer, Yellowstone Forever alongside the National Park Service, is piloting the Yellowstone Tribal Heritage Center. The center will highlight Native American artists, scholars, and presenters, providing an opportunity for Indigenous peoples to directly engage visitors through formal and informal education.

The Yellowstone Tribal Heritage Center will be located at the historic Haynes Photo Shop in the Old Faithful area. The center will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Artists will be sharing with visitors about their various art forms and Tribal heritage. The Tribal Heritage Center bookstore will also be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
