Description
As the sun sets over the New Philadelphia townsite, we invite you to join us for a celebration of its founder, Free Frank McWorter. Free Frank Freedom Day on Saturday, September 13th, honors the day Free Frank purchased himself out of slavery in 1819.
The event begins at 4:00 pm (CDT) and is hosted by the New Philadelphia Association. It features musical performances, historical presentations, and opportunities to connect with McWorter’s descendants.
National Park Service rangers will be on hand to provide brochures, an interactive activity, and information about New Philadelphia National Historic Site.
To participate, do the following:
- Go to the New Philadelphia townsite at 29766 306 Lane, Barry, Illinois 62312.
- Bring bug spray and water.
- Find more information about the event at the New Philadelphia Association.
