Description
Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historical Park (CEBE) is offering a Farm, Family, & Freedom ranger-led driving tour on Saturday, September 21, 2024. This 1-hour tour will begin at 2:00 pm. Meet at the Cedar Creek Battlefield Foundation Museum & Visitor Center, 8437 Valley Pike, Middletown, Va. The group will follow the park ranger’s car and caravan to the Bowman-Hite Farm.
See the Shenandoah Valley from its early settlements, the Civil War, and Reconstruction through the eyes of the families who lived there. During the tour, visitors will hear the newly rediscovered story of James Foster, an enslaved man, and his free wife, Mary Petty. The tour includes optional short walks around the Bowman-Hite Farm Buildings and the Thoburn’s Redoubt portion of the Cedar Creek Battlefield. Thoburn's Redoubt has been protected by the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation.
