Experience the exceptional quality of the night skies in an International Dark Sky Park and the nighttime treasure of Cape Lookout Lighthouse. Cape Lookout National Seashore, Crystal Coast Stargazers and Island Express Ferry Service have scheduled the last 2022 starlight cruise for October 15. The starlight cruise will leave from Cape Lookout Visitors Center, 1800 Island Road, Harkers Island at 6:15 pm (check in at the ticket window on the outside of the visitor center by no later than 6:00 pm); return from the lighthouse to Harkers Island at 8:30 PM.

While at the lighthouse, Brandon Porter, a NASA Solar System Ambassador will provide a laser pointed tour describing the celestial objects of the night sky from the beach.

Additionally, Crystal Coast Stargazers will have telescopes set-up at the Visitors Center on the mainland for public stargazing. No reservations or tickets needed for viewing through the telescopes at the Harkers Island Visitor Center.   The telescope viewing is kid-friendly, but please no pets.

Make the most of the night by coming prepared.  Check the weather and dress accordingly. Also, bring your lawn chairs or blankets, water, snacks, bug repellent, and flashlight with a red filter that helps in maintaining everyone’s night vision.
