Description

Join National Park Service Naturalist, Jerry Hightower for a leisurely hike in the beautiful Vickery Creek Unit. We will cross scenic Vickery Creek through the covered bridge and climb the new stairway into the oak-hickory forest with old growth Rhododendron, and Mountain Laurel. Walk along a nineteenth century road trace under glorious Big Leaf Magnolias. See the mill dam, waterfall, and ruins of the once bustling mills. Learn facts and a fable or two about the human as well as natural history of this extraordinary area amongst spring ferns and wildflowers.

Remember water and to dress for the weather. Wear very comfortable hiking shoes. Dress in layers so that you can adjust to changes in the temperature and your activity level. You may wish to bring binoculars, hand lens, notebook, and camera.
