From his boyhood fishing in the creeks and streams of West Branch to retirement when he was often fishing for Marlin in Florida, Herbert Hoover will always be known as the fishing president, after all he did write a book called “Fishing for Fun and to Wash Your Soul”. Brian “Fox” Ellis presents President Herbert Hoover as he recalls some of his favorite fish tales: stories of fishing with other world leaders, how he used fishing as a diplomatic tool, stories of his time as President of the Izaac Walton League, a few favorite fishing jokes and tales of the one that didn’t get away. This event is part of Hoover Hometown Days and will be take place in the Chautauqua Area near the West Branch Schoolhouse.

Ellis is an author, storyteller, historian, and naturalist. He has worked with The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, The Field Museum, and dozens of other museums across the country and has written 16 books. Fox is the Artistic Director for Prairie Folklore Theatre, a unique theatre company that celebrates ecology and history through original musical theatre productions.
