Description
New Orleans JAZZ NHP’s Song o’ the Day:
“Second Line Girl”
Today, August 12th, is “Middle Child Day”: a time to recognize all persons born neither first nor last, but emerging somewhere between – those of us who must learn to fulfill the roles of both older sibling & younger brother or sister, simultaneously! You’d think they’d be eligible for double-time pay, or something. Instead, we imbue them with something called “Middle Child Syndrome”: inclining them to be even-tempered but having trouble fitting in due to being sandwiched between the younger and older siblings (healthline). But, is that even a real “thing”? Alfred Adler’s 1964 study of Chilean Youth say it is. However, studies published by European Child & Adolescent Psychiatry and PubMed.gov indicate, “not so much!” It appears that Science, itself, is stuck in the middle on being born in the middle.
Regardless, the middle-born are in good company: Abraham Lincoln, Warren Buffet, Herbert Hoover, Jennifer Lopez, Anne Hathaway, David Letterman, Judd Apatow, Brittney Spears and Bill Gates all share their distinction (HolidaysCalendar). So, for all you middlin’ Bro’s & Sista’s out there, we celebrate your traits with Cha Wa’s wiggle-inducing rendition of “Second Line Girl”… (and if you don’t know what a New Orleans “Second-Line” is, well, that’s a lesson for another day.)
