Description

Description:

This snowshoe hike is a moderately strenuous, beginner level, ranger guided snowshoe hike. The hike is approximately one mile over hilly, uneven, snow covered meadows or mixed conifer forests in the Colorado River District of Rocky Mountain National Park, accessed through the Grand Lake entrance.

Snowshoes are provided. Please see requirements to ensure you are prepared for the walk.

Snowshoe programs may be cancelled at any time due to poor weather or if there is not enough snow on the ground.

For questions about CRD Snowshoe Programs – please call the Kawuneeche Visitor Center at (970) 586-1206.

Requirements:

Appropriate clothing and footwear are required such as: water-resistant hiking boots or snow boots, layer clothing, and water/wind resistant outer layer, hats, and gloves. Sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended. For your safety, gym shoes will not be allowed during the snowshoe walk.

Participants must be 8 years of age or older. Children 8-15 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Due to safety concerns, children in carriers are not permitted.

Participants must be able to snowshoe approximately one mile over hilly terrain at 8700 feet. One mile of snowshoeing is more strenuous than a typical hike. You may consider the activity level to be equal to hiking at least two miles on a summer trail, jogging one mile, or biking three miles.

Participants are required to wear a face mask while putting on and taking off snowshoes, but do not have to wear one while social distancing during the walk.

Visitors may not request extra tickets for people arriving later. Tickets are not given out prior to the day of the program.
