Description

National Trails Day is an annual event hosted by the American Hiking Society, which celebrates national scenic and historic trails, as well as all trails on public lands. On this same day, the National Park Service spotlights an initiative called Service Day to encourage not only enjoyment but also stewardship. Curious about what it means to be a good trail steward?

Find out as the Natchez Trace Parkway partners with the Lewis County Library for an event at the Meriwether Lewis Monument on Saturday, June 7th, starting at 10 AM. Join a ranger for a leisurely 45-minute walk as we cover the Leave No Trace principles for recreating responsibly in the outdoors. No registration is required, but please dress for rain or shine, wear comfortable walking or hiking shoes, and bring your choice of bug repellent if desired. Yes, folks, it's that time of year—bug season.

We’ll meet at the main restroom parking lot off milepost 385.9 to begin the event. See you there!
