Cima Dome Restoration Event
Looking for Adventure? Love the night sky? Like camping and hiking? Want to make a difference and help save the Joshua Tree Forest? We are recruiting for our Cima Dome Restoration event planned for this October. This year we will be planting another 1,000 Joshua tree seedlings into the Dome Fire burn scar, only with your help, of course! Starting October 6th, plantings will occur every weekend in October, starting Friday and ending Sunday, with additional weekends in November if needed.
In 2020, almost 44,000 acres of Cima Dome burned when a lightning complex traveled through the park. Scientists have identified Cima Dome as a likely refugia for Joshua trees, meaning, in the face of climate change, Cima Dome will continue to be a habitable place for Joshua trees. Daily activities include hiking 1-10 miles (depending on your comfortability!) and carrying seedlings, water, and other supplies. Volunteers are required to be self-sufficient when camping, as there are no amenities due to the remote nature of the restoration site.
