The Western Overlook is accessible by trail from the Visitor Center and Memorial Plaza. This location is key to the story of Flight 93 because not only was this the area where families of the passengers and crew saw the crash site for the first time, but the buildings that were here served as the command post for the 13-day investigation of Flight 93.
The metal structure that once stood here served as the welding shop for one of the coal companies, when the investigation started the building was converted into a command post serving 70 agencies.
