Uēkahuna is the celebrated wahi pana (legendary place) of Kaluapele, the caldera of Kīlauea. An important site for Native Hawaiian ritual and cultural practices, Uēkahuna presents visitors with spectacular vistas of Kaluapele, Mauna Loa, and surrounding areas from the highest point on the rim.
From here, visitors can hike along Crater Rim Trail for the most dramatic views of Kaluapele (Kīlauea caldera) and Halemaʻumaʻu crater, which underwent a massive collapse during the history-making eruption of 2018. .
