This Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) -placed, 1905 cast bronze plaque is set at eye level in an exterior adobe stucco wall on the west side of Old Santa Fe Trail, across from the La Fonda hotel.

Plaque reads, "This marks the route of the Santa Fe Trail, Kansas City to Santa Fe, 1822-1880." The official seals of the cities of Kansas City and Santa Fe on are on either side of the text. There is also an image of oxen pulling a wagon above the text.
