The Santa Fe National Forest encompasses hundreds of thousands of forest lands near Santa Fe, New Mexico. The national forest has portions to the east of Santa Fe, and across the Rio Grande, west of Santa Fe. There are many places in the forest that you can experience the trails! The Santa Fe Trail, Old Spanish Trail and El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro cross portions of the forest, giving you direct access to historic routes. Santa Fe is the hub of these three historic trails and it is surrounded by the green hills of the national forest. Experiencing the views, exploring the hiking trails, and any other recreation you choose, will allow you to step back in time in the historic landscape. Imagine the wagons, the sheep, the people, all traversing across this rugged landscape, taking in those same views!
