Roberts Creek Station, located about 18 miles northwest of Eureka, Nevada, was an original 1860 Pony Express station that also served the Overland Stage and the transcontinental telegraph until 1869. Sir Richard Burton, traveling by stagecoach, reported that the station had been destroyed by Indians during the Pyramid Lake War and ongoing conflicts along the Pony Express and Overland Trail, but it had been partially rebuilt when he arrived on Oct. 10, 1860. Burton spent the evening visiting with station employees, who sat “round the huge hearth of the half-finished station, with its holey walls.” Nothing is left of the log building today, but a steel marker indicates the station’s approximate location as established by Pony Express researcher Joe Nardone.
The site is in a working ranch-yard that is off-limits to visitors.
Nardone’s station marker, standing beside the ranch fence, is not visible from public right of way along Roberts Creek Rd.
