Collect a Passport Stamp at Ker Place

Ker Place is a Federal-period Georgian-style house that was built between 1799 and 1803 for the merchant farmer John Shepherd Ker. Today the home serves as a gallery, archives, and collections facility with a genealogy room. Guided and self-guided tours of the museum are available. Visitors to Ker Place can collect a passport stamp for the Captain John Smith Chesapeake National Historic Trail.

Town of Onancock

Decades after the area was explored by Captain John Smith in 1608, the town of Onancock was charted in 1680. Onancock was the trade center of the Eastern Shore for some 250 years. It was closely tied to maritime commerce to Baltimore and Norfolk.
