The Laurel of the Limberlost

Pink and white blooms of Mountain Laurel along the Limberlost Trail
Early summer along the Limberlost Trail brings the excitement of a corridor of Mountain Laurel.

A favorite pastime for Park visitors is catching the awe-inspiring changing seasonal wildflowers of Shenandoah. From the earliest spring ephemerals through the pastels of summer and competing colors of fall, the mountain is a painted landscape in every direction.

For visitors wanting an accessible hike with astounding flower activity, the Limberlost Trail is known for its corridors of Mountain Laurel shrubs. Famed throughout the history of the Park and even in the earliest days of Skyland Resort, the Mountain Laurel of the Limberlost grows dense, blooming its iconic pink and white saucer-shaped flowers through early June.
