Historical/Interpretive Information/Exhibits, Scenic View/Photo Spot

On the easternmost boundary of Sagamore Hill lies Eel Creek and Cold Spring Harbor. Eel Creek is a saltwater tidal creek and salt marsh which is home to marsh grass, mollusks, crabs, fish, and wading birds. On the opposite side of the footbridge is a beach on the western shore of Cold Spring Harbor and Oyster Bay National Wildlife Refuge. During the Roosevelt family's time here, they maintained a footbridge, a shack for changing into swimming attire, and a shed to store rowboats. The children enjoyed swimming and playing in the sand, while TR's favorite activity was rowing.

The Roosevelt Beach area is for passive recreation only. This includes viewing wildlife, enjoying the natural scenery and feeling a connection to nature. Activities typically associated with a recreational beach are prohibited. Read our rules and regulations page for more information: Visiting Eel Creek and Cold Spring Harbor
