Just west of Savage River, the landscape rises above tree-line in an area called Primrose Pass.

This area is particularly lovely in the fall, when the shrubby landscape turns vivid shades of orange and red. Because it is relatively high elevation, it is also one of the first areas to be dusted with snow in the fall within the early miles of the Denali Park Road.

In spring, summer and fall—conditions permitting—visitors may drive to Savage River, and walk up the Denali Park Road to take in the views of the area, or use a free bus in the main summer season. The area is also a key stop on the Denali Natural History Tour
