Your first peek at the peak!

At Mile 11 is a pullout with a great view of Denali to the southwest if the weather is fair. This stretch of the Denali Park Road is the first area where visitors can drive to see North America's highest peak.

White-capped and still 76 miles (122 km) away, the mountain will appear large, but not particularly taller than other nearby peaks. That’s a deception of perspective; at 20,310 feet (6,190 m) Denali is over 14,000 feet (4,300 m) taller than Double Mountain and the other mountains that you see in the foreground.

From roughly late April through early October, visitors may drive up to 15 miles into Denali on its sole road. Snow can fall almost any time of year, though, so visitors traveling outside of summer (June through August) should be aware that the road might be temporarily closed. A free bus is available in the summer months, for visitors without a car.
