Cadillac Summit Loop, located on the eastern side of Mount Desert Island, is well known as one of the most scenic paths at Acadia National Park. Starting at the top of Cadillac Mountain, which is accessible via car, this path provides a walk with breathtaking 360-degree views of Frenchman Bay, the Porcupine Islands, and Downeast Maine.

Note: Some steps may be required to access the full loop, most of the trail is paved walkways.

Cadillac Summit Loop is a great path for families and people with mobility challenges. Visitors will travel on paved pathways surrounded by slabs of the iconic pink Cadillac Granite.

Getting to Cadillac Summit Loop

The entrance to Cadillac Summit Loop is located on the east side of the Cadillac Mountain Summit parking lot. Drivers will find a parking lot with five angled accessible parking spaces: one is in front of the gift shop and accessible restrooms, four are located on the right side near the entrance to the trail. All accessible parking spots are designated by blue paint and striping on the ground.

To drive a vehicle to the summit of Cadillac Mountain, a timed-entry permit is required May-October, which can be purchased through Recreation.gov.

What to Expect

Cadillac Summit Loop is a paved loop with large stone steps throughout. The paved path has some steeper grades and flat sections with overlooks and wayside displays along the way.

Cadillac Mountain is an often-crowded location and this trail is heavily trafficked during the summer season.

Accessible restrooms are available outside of the gift shop, with a ramp leading to the entrance to the restrooms. At the same location a water bottle filling station, gift shop, and trash receptacle are all available.
