The North Rim's Backcountry Information Center provides information, permits, and trip planning assistance for those looking to explore Grand Canyon on day and overnight hikes from the canyon's northern rim. Day hikes do not require permits of any kind, but any overnight trip to the backcountry, whether below the rim or above, requires a permit. You can get information and try for a day-of permit in person at the Backcountry Information Center.

Located in the Administrative area of the North Rim's developed area The Backcountry Office is open daily to assist backcountry hikers. Look for signs along 67S just south of the North Kaibab Trailhead.

Water at the Backcountry Office is available year round even after the North Rim has closed for the season.
